Brick Siding and Brick Veneer

What is brick siding and brick veneer
Brick siding is composed of blocks made of fired clay. These bricks are laid in a variety of patterns and bonded together with mortar. Brick siding is truly “siding,” which means it does not support any load of the home.

Brick veneer is another form of siding created to imitate original brick siding. It is manufactured into a large vertical facing or a smaller tile-like thin bricks. It is commonly attached to a house frame or even existing siding using brick ties. Brick veneer does not support any load.

Advantages of brick siding and brick veneer
Brick is one of the most durable forms of siding on the market today. Brick siding can last for centuries and does not typically require maintenance or repairs for at least 20 - 25 years. It is available in many lasting colors.

Brick veneer is slightly less durable than its brick counterpart, however it is much easier to install on an already existing house than regular brick.

Brick siding and brick veneer are both very good insulators and can dramatically improve the efficiency of you home.

Disadvantages of brick siding and brick veneer
Brick siding and brick veneer are very expensive.

Installing brick requires a very high level of skill and experience. It is not your typical do-it-yourself project, as lying the brick properly is a task that requires years of practice.

Cost of brick siding and brick veneer
The cost of brick is much higher than other, more familiar siding options like vinyl or shingles; however most contractors will tell you brick pays for it self in the long run. It increases the value of your home, it will save you money on your heating bills, and it is the most durable form of siding. Look to pay a minimum of $600 to $1600 per square (100 square feet) plus the cost of trim, accessories, and installation.
