What is cedar siding
Cedar shingle siding is cedar wood cut into small rectangles which are then nailed or stapled in a symmetrical horizontal pattern.

Cedar shake siding is also cedar wood but it comes in many different styles. Cedar shake siding has a “rugged and natural” appearance. It is usually hand split and tapered on the edges, creating a much less symmetrical look.

Though not very common, insects can find their way into the cedar wood. Preventative measures are available for this problem.

If you plan to leave your siding looking natural and unpainted, a protective varnish is recommended to resist fungus.
